Chapter History
In 1926, despite opposition, the founders of Grace and Hope Mission opened up a branch of GHM in Norfolk, Virginia. The first building was located at 602 E. Main Street where it served as a lighthouse to many sailors for over thirty years.
Their faith was severely tested during those first years. But God blessed us and, in 1929, the building at 602 E. Main Street was dedicated. For thirty-five years the mission stood as a lighthouse in that part of Norfolk. In 1961, when the city redeveloped the area, 1206 Granby Street became the new location for Grace and Hope Mission.
In 1970, prayer and progress, would lead us to a vacant lot at 2800 Lafayette Boulevard! On this property the Grace and Hope Mission was built.
Our first and primary goal is, and always, is, to preach and teach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We do this in tract form in our street meetings, in our regular scheduled meetings, and in visitation of the sick and the elderly in private homes, hospitals and nursing homes. The children and young people accompany us to a neighbor nursing home and they enjoy singing to the residents - And, the residents are thrilled with the visits of this younger, enthusiastic generation.
A major part of our ministry is to assist the needy in our community with food and clothing. The Bonner Foundation has helped us with grants to feed the hungry. Because we have membership in the Southeastern Virginia Food Bank, we are enabled to provide more food for more people. Clothing has been provided for us through Operation Blessing. This organization has helped us with food supplies and clothing for the community.
We schedule weekly programs for adults, young and children throughout the week.

Reports NORFOLK, VIRGINIA 2800 Lafayette Boulevard Barbara Luzzi, Superintendent The disciples asked Jesus the question (that we read in Matthew 25:39), "When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you?" Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Visitation is a big part of our ministry here in Norfolk. Please pray for those who are in the hospital andlor a rehab facility right now, namely, Mrs. Ahart Frango, baby Noah and Jean Baskett. We request prayer for others who are having treatments for serious illnesses, namely, Nicole Cherry and Ruth Bodner Philipps. Please pray for two young boys who will be having heart surgery. Brett is nephew to Chris Wejrowski and Aaron is nephew to Sabrina Blackman. Please remember Edward Quales, Sf. who is having a lot of pain in his back and hip. Also, remember Linny Doyle who is suffering from Parkinson's disease. If a person cannot visit the sick, he can pray. And as G.S. has said, "Since the Holy Spirit makes intercession for the informed saints according to God's will, who are we to pray any other way?" Romans 8:22-27 He also said, "In my thinking, the 'prayer of faith' cannot be prayed simply at will. It is given of God in certain cases to serve His purpose and to accomplish His sovereign will." I agree. Let us pray and let God answer. An anonymous person said, "Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies outside the will of God." God is all-knowing, allpowerful and can do miracles but we say as Jesus said, "Not my will but Thine be done." Matthew 26:39.
